Prior erdogan7to his departure for Azerbaijan, to which he will pay a state visit, President Erdoğan responded to queries from the press regarding such issues as the crashing of a Turkish F-16 fighter jet in the southeastern city of Diyarbakır, the current situation of the resolution process as to the Kurdish issue and the fact that some political parties have not accepted invitations from the Presidency. The President also commented on the court’s verdict of non-prosecution about the December 25 operation, saying: “Anyone interested in the law should understand what nolle prosequi means. If there are some who have an objection to this, they can file an objection lawsuit.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, before leaving for Azerbaijan, responded to questions from the press as to the agenda at Esenboğa Airport.

President Erdoğan, commenting on the nolle prosequi regarding the December 25 operation, noted that the judiciary has already reached a verdict of non-prosecution about it and reiterated that anyone interested in the law should understand what nolle prosequi means. If there are some who have an objection to this, said the President, they can file an objection lawsuit.”

President Erdoğan, when asked about the fact that an F-16 fighter jet crashed in the eastern city of Diyarbakır, said he had talked to Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Özel, adding: “Once the woman pilot of the F-16 fighter jet, as she was approaching to the landing field, had reali zed the problem, she ejected herself from the plane before it crashed. Thank God, she did not get hurt. After the General Staff receives all the technical details, it will make the statement about the crash.”

A press member later asked President Erdoğan about what evaluations he could make regarding the statement of the main opposition party, CHP, leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who said he would not meet with President Erdoğan except for the state of war. The same reporter further recalled that CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu did not accompany President Erdoğan on his official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC in Turkish). The President then noted that “on the 13th anniversary of the running AK Party, I said ‘I invite political leaders. If they want to accept my invitation, they come along, but if they don’t, I will not repeat my invitations again.’ The office of the President does not tolerate sentimentality. This is the highest office of the country. This office invites them and if they affirmatively respond to my invitation, they are invited again on a different occasion. If they reject my invitation, I don’t have to invite them again, nor will I cross swords with them.”

President Erdoğan further shared his views about the current situation and the new structuring of the resolution process regarding the Kurdish issue, saying: “The government has made changes in the cabinet regarding the resolution process. All I can say is that I hope they can succeed, as I believe that these changes will serve the purpose of this process. This process was matured during my term in office as Prime Minister. The relevant officials in a robust solidarity will carry it to the future. It is a duty on our shoulders to conclude this process successfully.”
