President Erdoğan Meets with President Obama

President Erdoğan evinced his pleasure at finding such an opportunity to evaluate with President Obama the recent developments in the region.

MODEL PARTNERHIP BETWEEN TURKEY AND THE US

Noting that there is an ongoing sensitive process between Turkey and the US within the framework of model partnership, President Erdoğan said that a number of issues in this process have enhanced Turkish-US cooperation, adding: “The most important framework of our cooperation in the military area is NATO. We enjoy cooperation in the political, economic and cultural areas as well. We have attended a NATO summit during which such issues as Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Libya and Ukraine have been discussed. I will discuss all these issues with President Obama and we will seize this opportunity in the best way.”

As for President Obama, he shared his pleasure at meeting with President Erdoğan, whom he congratulated on his new post. Declaring President Erdoğan to be an important leader for their alliance and he reiterated the significance of Turkey for NATO in terms of serving as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East. The US President further noted that they share the same concern about the unfolding developments in such countries as Iraq and Syria, declaring that the ISIS is a threat to all countries. He also evinced his pleasure at observing the existing cooperation in the fields of the military and intelligence and lauded Turkey for showing its generosity and humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees.

Attending the meeting between the two leaders were Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu; National Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz and Undersecratary Feridun Sinirlioğlu of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
