Michelle Collins on soap life

Michelle-CollinsMichelle Collins became one of a select band of actors who have appeared in both EastEnders and Coronation Street when she became landlady of the Rovers Return.

But criticism of her accent and her own claims of being marginalised meant her three years in Britain’s best-loved soap were marred with controversy.

Now in her explosive new book, This Is Me, she reveals for the first time what life was really like when she swapped Walford for Weatherfield.

The 51-year-old, who joined the soap as Stella Price in 2011, writes: “Being in Coronation Street was never going to be straightforward for me because of the constant commuting between London and Manchester. I knew that I might not be able to get back every day, but I don’t think I realised just how
difficult it was going to be.

“Before our first appearance on the cobbles there was a big trailer, which seemed to be on every five minutes, and I was slightly worried it might be setting us up for a fall. It showed the Price/Munroe clan – Stella, Karl and Eva – stepping out of a car and striding down the street, while windows cracked and glasses exploded all around the horrified regulars in the Rovers Return.
